Note: This was featured as part of our Web Wednesday segment on Charleston’s 105.5 The Bridge. You can catch us every Wednesday morning at 8:20 am ET for your dose of social media & digital marketing news. You can listen to the segment below:

The vertical video trend continues to rise rapidly. While not everyone is a fan of this format, it is inevitable and will be around for years to come. More users are becoming accustomed to viewing content without having to turn their devices sideways. Over 70% of YouTube watch time happens on mobile devices, and while YouTube hasn't provided specific stats on vertical viewing, the announcement would suggest that it's also rising significantly. IGTV, Snapchat, and Instagram/Facebook Stories are all vertical video. YouTube has also now launched vertical video ads - a huge nod to the growing trend.

However, the vertical video format is not necessarily for everyone. If your audience is older and more traditional, they're probably viewing video/media on a desktop or tablet and they could be frustrated by a vertical video. If you're targeting a more progressive audience that's younger, on the go, and tech-friendly, vertical video (and the tactics that go with it) is the way to go!

If you're still wondering if video can help your brand, it can and will. Among other things, video can help improve your website’s SEO and increase brand recognition. It also poses the opportunity to go “viral”. Some estimates say that by 2021, 81% of web traffic will be video-related. Video content helps meet a demand that customers have for more information that is delivered faster and more conveniently. They are informative while also engaging and entertaining.
