Note: This was featured as part of our Web Wednesday segment on Charleston’s 105.5 The Bridge with Box in the Morning. You can catch us every Wednesday morning at 8:20 am ET for your dose of social media & digital marketing news. You can listen to the segment below:

Instagram boasts a global user base of over 600 million monthly active users sharing and interacting with millions of images daily. (In fact, 95 million photos and videos are uploaded to the platform each day.)

So how do you use this to your brand’s advantage? Last November, Instagram started playing around with a new shopping experience to help businesses like yours be able to sell their products by allowing users to more easily find products they’re interested in.

Millennials have grown up around advertising and are becoming immune to it. So it’s essential for your business to find a new way to appeal to that generation, and a “real-time” advertising approach is the way to do it. This means you need to be utilizing these Instagram features and investing in professional content to share on your social media sites that organically appeal to your audience.

Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories now has an option for accounts with 10k+ followers to add a “Swipe Up” URL link feature so users can buy directly from your business’s Story. (Although we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this is released across the platform soon, as we love working with smaller businesses as well.)

Instagram Shop

Because Instagram is owned by Facebook, a lot of the capabilities of your Instagram business account are connected to your Facebook Page. This means you can create a shop on your Facebook Page and connect it to your Instagram so you can tag specific products that your business sells in your Instagram images for easy access.

Since more than 84% of smartphone users in the US use their mobile devices to research products, having them easily accessible on a mobile app like Instagram is an especially great way to attract new customers. If you’re not sure how to get started with an Instagram Shop or with Instagram Stories, fill out our free consultation form, and we’ll be in touch!
