Blogging is often a business owner’s nightmare. What do you write about? Who’s going to do it? And why even bother, right? It’s time consuming, and does it even bring in new business?

Well, here in 2017, we’re here to tell you that it DOES matter, and blogging DOES impact your bottom line. We’ll be the first to tell you that blogging will not bring you an immediate return. Instead, blogging should be looked at as an investment, similar to your retirement or IRA fund. You may have very little when you start, but after blogging for awhile, you really start to reap the benefits.

What benefits?

When you update your website by publishing a new blog, the new content requires Google to come back to crawl and index your site again. This shows Google that your website is up to date, and is a huge factor when it comes to your search engine page ranking.

But, not only does blogging help to make your website more credible, it also helps with your overall content creation. Sharing links to your blog on social media is a win-win: you have more content to include in your social strategy, and you’re sending your social media followers back to your website to learn more about you and your business.

What does a blog look like?

It’s not 100% text. In fact, blog posts that look like a wall of text fail on the readability scale and won’t get you the traffic and benefits you’re looking for. Blog posts that include images get 94% more views than blogs that don’t, and a variety of blog types will hold a reader’s attention best. Varying types of blog posts can include video, long-form content, short-form content, etc. Google’s robots are extremely intelligent, and they prefer quality over quantity. In fact, the average word count for top-ranking content on Google is between 1,140 and 1,285 words.

We understand that it can be intimidating or seem impossible to commit to a blog, but publishing new content 2-4 times each month can seriously help to increase your website traffic.
