It’s no secret that Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) and content marketing are incredibly important for your brand. In an ever-changing social media world, it’s crucial to discuss how these two go hand in hand for your business. First and foremost, let’s talk about what the two exactly are.

According to Search Engine Land, SEO is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines. Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other major search engines have primary search results ranked based on what their search engine recognizes as most relevant.

Content marketing is a marketing technique which involves creating content for a defined audience to drive awareness, sales, etc. This includes videos, blog posts, infographics, and more.

So how do the two work together?

SEO simply will not work without content. It’s important to continuously update your website and remain relevant, because organic SEO is a very competitive market. SEO is also based on keywords. While a multitude of keywords in your website could hurt you rather than help you, your safest bet is to utilize these keywords within your content.

Finally, work on improving your backlinks. A backlink is anywhere online where someone has linked back to a page on your website. How do you get people to do this? Of course, make sure your content is share worthy from the beginning, and share links yourself in hopes yours will be shared in return.
