There are really just three ways to tell that a company is successful overall: revenue, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement. I’m sure the first two were obvious but did you realize how important employee engagement is to a business’s overall performance? If your employees aren’t engaging with your marketing and your business on and offline, your marketing efforts are for nothing.

Employee engagement means people are happy to work for you. When people are happy to work for you, they’re happy to help your customers and clients have the best possible customer experience. When your customers and clients have the best possible customer experience, they become return customers, they tell their friends and family about your business, and you end up making more money.

Is this beginning to sound a little bit like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? Everything is related, and it all goes back to happy and engaged employees.

Now what do we mean by engaged employees? Are these employees who like all of your business’s Facebook posts? I mean, that could be one piece of the puzzle, but no, that’s not exactly what we’re talking about. Engaged employees feel like essential parts of the team, they love working for you and your business, and want to inspire others around them to do their best.

Here are a few tips for increasing employee engagement.

1. Put it in your company policy

The best way to get started with employee engagement is to have a clear call to action directly from the top. Ensure all management is informed about changes and expectations in employee engagement. Your management needs to understand that if they’re not driving employees to be engaged, your company may not be effective in the marketplace.

2. Create a marketing and HR partnership

What does your marketing team do? It works to increase and improve customer engagement. So it only makes sense that employee engagement would also fall under the marketing overhead. Hire a person or an agency with both marketing and HR experience to spearhead your company’s employee engagement process.

3. Reflect on your company’s behavior towards employees

It’s time for some serious introspection. Because if employees don’t feel like valued members of the team, many times it’s because of some internal issues. Examine how your management and higher-ups interact with employees, and make sure it fits in line with your company values. Focus on the employee journey, and consider what your employees want and need from their jobs.

4. Use a platform for employee engagement

Whether you utilize a third-party app or service, have a physical bulletin board in your establishment, or whatever works for your business, make sure that you have a platform to encourage employee engagement. Post information about the company, new hires, promotions, have contests, and determine other ways to help your employees feel excited about their jobs and your company.

Don’t forget about your employees when thinking about your company goals and values and your marketing strategies. They’re an integral part of your business’s success. Give us a call at (888) 632-4499 or fill out our free consultation form to learn how we can help you improve employee engagement.
