On Tuesday, September 15th, Apple held its product launch event at the new Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. Lots of announcements were made, but one stood out among the rest, the unveiling of the iPhone X.  Click here to watch the full unveiling presentation.

Just like before any launch of one of their new products, there was lots of buzz swirling around Apple’s newest iPhone for the past few months. While some of the rumors were true about the new features and design, Apple set the record straight and demonstrated everything the iPhone X has to offer. And in case you didn’t already catch on, Apple didn’t skip the number 9 just because, the iPhone X is named for the 10 year anniversary of the iPhone.

So, what are some of these new features we are talking about and what makes this iPhone so different from other iPhones or other smartphones? There are 50+ new features, so we’ve decided to list some of the most crucial ones that set this device apart from the rest.

Edge to Edge Screen: The newest iPhone’s screen has a nearly edge-to-edge display. There is only one small notch at the top for the new TrueDepth camera. The home button has been removed.

Face ID: The touch ID that we have all grown to love is being replaced with Face ID. All you have to do is raise the device to your face, look at it and swipe up on the screen to unlock it.

Side Button: Removing the home button had a lot of users asking what a replacement would be. The new device will have an elongated “side button” where your “lock button” is currently located. You will now be able to access Siri and Apple Pay from that button.

Glass: The front and back of the iPhone X are made completely of glass with a strengthening layer that is 50% deeper (and hopefully more shatterproof).

Steel frame: The surgical-grade stainless steel band that wraps around the edges of the iPhone X promises to hold up.

OLED: The iPhone X will have an OLED display which allows for improved color accuracy, high contrast ratio and true blacks.

2436×1125 Pixels: This is the highest resolution on an iPhone display ever created.

Portrait Mode Selfies: This one speaks for itself, but the popular Portrait Mode will now be available on the iPhone’s front-facing camera.

Portrait Lighting: You will be able to create lighting effects, such as Studio Light, Contour Light, Natural Light and others.

Animoji: This is the new set of emoji-style characters that animate based on the user’s facial expressions.

Wireless Charging: The device can simply be placed on a charging pad to receive a charge.

Fast Charging: Apple says that this new device can be charged to 50% battery life in 30 minutes using one of their new charging cables (which are sold separately).

With all of these updates in mind, we asked the TMC team which iPhone X feature they were most excited about even though none of us were quite yet committed to the $999 – $1,149 price tag.

Kylie: I am interested to use the new face recognition feature, which scans your face to unlock your phone. Considering that the device failed during Apple’s official demonstration during the September 12th unveiling event, will the iPhone be able to do everything it is designed to do?

Chloe: I am excited about the full edge-to-edge screen display, because who needs a home button anyways?

Camilla: The duel 12MP cameras are what I am really looking forward to. Apple is always coming out with new ways to improve smartphone photography and I am excited to see it in action.

Audrey: I am actually pretty glad that there is no home button even though I was hesitant at first. But I will miss the fingerprint recognition.

Jenn: I am super excited that it is water-resistant. It rains a lot in Charleston, so this would be one less thing to worry about getting wet. I also can’t wait to play with the portrait lighting feature. It will be great for taking pictures of my cats.

Ashley: I am excited about Animoji because I love using emojis when I am texting. My daughter would love to play with them too!

Chelse: I was so excited to hear that this is the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone. I am rough on my phone, so hopefully, this will prove to be more shatter-resistant.

Camille: While I am also really excited about the new camera features, I am looking forward to having a wireless charging option. I currently have this 12-foot cord, which is nice when I am charging and I don’t have an outlet close, but it will be great to not have long cords to worry about untangling constantly.

The iPhone X can be ordered starting October 27th and limited quantities will be available in-store starting November 3rd. We want to know what feature you are most excited about and are you willing to shell out that much money on Apple’s newest device? Regardless, we are excited to see the iPhone X in action!
