You’ve likely already put some thought into your marketing strategy for 2018. After all, planning for a new year is one of the more fun things in life. (No? Just me?) And if you haven’t, we’d love to walk you through the process with a digital strategy!

However, there are a few things you should start doing this year that you may not have thought about yet! Here are our top five marketing planning tips for 2018.

1. Find out what you might not know

You don’t know what you don’t know until, well, you know. But how do you find this information out? Consider sending out a customer survey, or conduct an interview of a sample of clients or potential clients to gather some data. Ask about their biggest challenges, their view of your company, who they think your competitors are, and other critical information pertinent to your business.

Actually taking the time out to discover this information can do wonders for your marketing planning moving forward.

2. Focus on content marketing

Content marketing is when you use written content to promote and market your business. And this can be much more than just a blog post. Ebooks, online courses, infographics, workbooks, and any type of content like that is considered part of content marketing.

And this is something you should be really ramping up in 2018. What types of content development are you doing right now? What can you do to improve those, or implement even more types of content into your strategy?

3. Look at your brand from an employee’s point of view

Does your brand and website look innovative, like a company that your target employee would want to work for? Looking appealing to new employee’s and looking appealing to new clients are actually more similar than you might think. Start with a few small changes to see if you become more attractive to prospects.

4. Don’t waste time and money on a platform that you don’t need

One huge mistake we see businesses make all too often is putting too much emphasis on a social media platform or digital marketing avenue that they don’t need or don’t know how to properly utilize. If you’re promoting your business to an audience that isn’t yours, or if you’re not strategically using a marketing avenue in the best way possible, you really are wasting your time and your business’s money.

Instead, focus on what you do know how to do, and the platforms where your audience is spending their time. And if you’re just not that social savvy? No sweat! Hire a marketing agency (like us, wink wink) to implement your strategy for you.

5. Don’t forget to revisit your strategy

Your marketing strategy is never a set it and forget it type of deal. Especially in the world of digital marketing, something that may have worked well in January might not be the best tactic anymore as soon as May.

You constantly need to measure your results and adjust your strategy accordingly. Take time out each quarter to make sure that what you’re doing in your business’s marketing still makes sense.
