With all of the talk surrounding Facebook’s new algorithm changes, we wanted to provide a few ideas for how you can start creating more engaging content. After all, that’s what Facebook wants. It wants high-quality content that will give its user base a better overall experience on their platform.

And if you can prove that your content does that, it’ll be rewarded by the algorithm and see much higher organic reach.

But creating engaging content can be tough. How the heck are you supposed to get your customers to like and comment on your Facebook posts?

Well, how do you use social media for yourself? You post things to spark conversations, right?

And that’s what this all boils down to: social media is supposed to be social. You’re supposed to post content that makes people want to interact with it and share it with their friends.

I mean, you’ve seen those BuzzFeed posts about “Happy Ashley Day” or “Happy Rebecca Day,” right? Those are guaranteed to create engagement with people with those names, regardless of the fact that BuzzFeed has millions of followers.

So what does this tell you?

Well, sharing content that resonates with your audience, that is humorous, or that is just plain fun is the way to stand out from the crowd now.

You can’t simply post a link to your sales page and be done with it. Rather than leads, traffic, and conversions, your strategy needs to switch over to engagement. When posting organic content, you should always have the thought, “Is this something my audience will enjoy seeing and will want to interact with?” at the forefront of your mind.

And one of the ways to do that is to share fun social holidays that are relevant to your industry or niche.

We love sharing fun GIFs or photos when silly holidays like “Selfie Day,” “Improve Your Desk Day,” and “Change Your Password Day” come around. And you can (and should) do the same!

But we’re not going to leave you hanging. Let’s go through a few specific ways how!

1. Share a behind-the-scenes photo

People love behind-the-scenes. You know how popular bloopers are for TV shows and movies, right? It’s kind of the same for your business! Show your team being silly while participating in a holiday, share a spoof of your business, or a BTS of your products/services in a way that relates to the holiday.

2. Share a GIF

Let’s not get into the whole “GIF” versus “JIF” pronunciation debate right now (it’s “GIF”). Instead, let’s just take a few minutes to procrastinate from whatever we’re doing and laugh at a few of the top GIFs on Giphy.

There’s no denying that everyone loves a good GIF. And if Twitter’s got one thing going for them, it’s that their #GIFgame is STRONG.

So why not find the perfect GIF to share when celebrating your social holiday? All but guaranteed to get some laughs.

3. Create a graphic

Going back to how BuzzFeed does their silly “Happy Ashley Day” posts. Consider creating a graphic using your brand colors and fonts in celebration of the “holiday.”

If you go this route, you really gotta play up your caption. How can you put your brand’s personality into this post and come up with a unique and engaging caption? Since this really varies depending on industry, holiday, and business, captions will be different for everyone.
